The CATHEDRAL OF THE HOLY CROSS was dedicated in 1875 and serves a vibrant community which includes English and Spanish congregations as well as Ge’ez Rite Catholics, and a large and thriving Traditional Latin Mass community.
Drawing on its titular name, the Cathedral community has great devotion to the Cross of Christ, and a relic of the true wood of the Cross is venerated every day in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. This relic was brought to Boston from France in the early 19th century.
Pilgrims to the Cathedral will want to pray before the stained glass window of Our Lady, Mother of Mercy, depicted holding broken chains in her hands. Her Son has freed us from sin and death by the ultimate act of mercy on the Cross.
