Pforten der Barmherzigkeit

Bishop James Hartley, third Bishop of Columbus, laid the cornerstone for the church on 12 June 1904. Bishop Hartley consecrated the church on 12 December 1909. The church has stained glass windows depicting the life of Mary that came from Germany. The first Mass in the Northwest Territory took place in Marietta on 16 August 1749. A $5 Million renovation took place in 2008-2009. The altar contains relics of the Twelve Apostles and St. John Vianney. There is a relic of the True Cross on display for veneration as well as a large mosaic of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Pope Francis raised the church to the honor of Minor Basilica on 13 June 2013.
