The Lamb of God, symbol of comfort and hope, donated by Pope Francis to a delegation of ten people and then distributed to all the participants at the Jubilee Prayer Vigil “To Dry the Tears” held in Saint Peter’s Basilica, will be available in the upcoming days exclusively at the Pilgrim Information Center on Via della Conciliazione, 7.

This image represents the Agnus Dei, that is, the Paschal Lamb who was victorious over the death suffered on the altar of the cross.  He is surrounded by the Latin text of the verse “And God will dry every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 7:17). On the back is a reproduction of the official logo of the Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy (8.XII.2015-20.XI.2016) announced by Pope Francis, with the motto “Merciful Like the Father” (Gospel of Luke  6:36). The image was given by Pope Francis on 5 May, 2016, on the Vigil of the Ascension, during the celebration of the prayer service “To Dry the Tears”, dedicated especially to those who live in situations of profound suffering.

Pope Francis desires that those who receive the Agnus Dei, will take it to those who are most suffering and in need of consolation, as a way of sharing with them and an expression of the mercy that the Father has revealed in the Paschal Mystery of His Son.
